Investment Discipline
Genesis Investment Management, LLP ("Genesis") believes that the critical
factor for successful investment performance in Emerging Markets is, and will
continue to be, stock selection. The Emerging Markets comprise some of the most
dynamic economies in the world when assessed by GDP growth and by the degree of
rapid structural change taking place. Structural change brings challenges to
companies, creating both winners and losers in the corporate sector. Genesis
aims to identify those companies capable of growing and which are most
undervalued compared to their long-term potential. In addition, the
inefficiency of securities pricing in Emerging Markets reinforces the case for
a stock-picking discipline. Genesis believes that Emerging Markets offer the
potential for superior returns as companies in these markets generally have a
higher rate of profit growth than more developed countries.
Genesis aims to achieve long-term capital growth for its clients, while
mitigating volatility by broad diversification of portfolios across countries
and sectors. Portfolios are not constructed or managed by reference to a
benchmark, although the investment team stay aware of the country, sector and
larger company weightings in the major indices. The firm has identified a
primary focus list of around 45 countries in which to invest and it constantly
evaluates this list as the economies of the world's developing nations grow and
evolve.
