Investment Discipline
Welch & Forbes LLC's ("Welch & Forbes") investment philosophy is
based on the premise that investing begins with the assumption that the cost of
living will continue to rise. The real purchasing power of financial assets
will shrink over time unless an appropriate investment strategy is implemented
to combat the impact of inflation. Therefore, the firm tries to direct its
clients' funds into investments which can produce a steadily rising stream of
income while also appreciating in value. Their research effort is focused on
identifying companies that can increase both earnings and dividends faster than
the growth of the economy as a whole. Historically, common stocks of well
managed and soundly financed companies with strong product or service
franchises have proven to be among the firm's most rewarding investments.
The Firm
Welch & Forbes offers a broad range of fiduciary services related to the
management of assets. The firm provides custody of securities through an
exclusive arrangement with a major custodian. Its administrative staff oversees
these activities and also maintains records of assets kept outside of the firm.
Welch & Forbes members serve as trustees for clients and are often named as
executors in wills. The firm also takes care of the complex details of
administration for estates of all sizes. Because Welch & Forbes maintains
its own tax department, it is especially well equipped to offer in-depth
financial and estate planning.
Advisory accounts are managed by one of the firm's members or investment
associates in joint consultation. In addition, every account is reviewed by
each of the firm's members on a regular basis so that principals of the firm
are familiar with each client relationship. Since individual investment
objectives are diverse, special attention is paid to working closely with
clients and their families to ensure complete trust and understanding over
time.
Established in Boston in 1838, Welch & Forbes is an investment advisory
firm that provides services to personal trusts, as well as individuals and
charitable organizations. Welch & Forbes values the close personal
relationships that it enjoys with its present clientele, many of whom are
descendants of its original clients more than 160 years ago. The firm is led by
its President, Richard F. Young.
